Hurricane Season is not the only time Floridians experience severe weather, but it’s more frequent this time of year.
Whether you are a seasoned Floridian or just moved here, our stormy weather has become fiercer; always expect tornadoes.

PREPARE NOW AND PLAN:
· Pre-register for the Special Needs Shelter if you have a medical condition with special needs. Check the criteria. · Register for Palm Beach County’s Emergency Notification System ALERT PBC to stay informed. · Designate an interior SAFE ROOM with NO windows or closet with space for everyone (pets too).
· We need to find you if you need help. Address numbers outside your home, must be at least 4” inches high, visible from the road with contrasting paint colors. (reflective is more visible at night).
· Check smoke alarms. Replace them if they do not work or are older than 10 years. Remember, cooking (unattended) is the #1 cause of home fires.
· Install carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to warn you if exhaust or gas fumes seep into openings (eaves, vents, windows, etc.).
· Shutters – Attached shutters should be lubricated and easy to function. Manual shutters (i.e., metal or plywood) should be marked with their matching opening.
· Stay informed – monitor weather updates daily. Avoid outdoor building and landscape projects if severe weather is coming – branches and construction materials can become flying debris and damage property.

Lighting – Stock up on battery-operated lights and candles or portable solar-powered lighting. Avoid real wick candles – open flames are a fire hazards.
